Former Indiana Sen. Dan Coats favored for intel director

Former Indiana Sen. Dan Coats is the favorite to be the next Director of National Intelligence, according to a report.

Coats, a former US ambassador to Germany, has emerged as the likely pick to become the nation’s top spook, NBC reported.

The longtime public servant, who officially retired from the Senate just days ago, met with President-elect Donald Trump at the end of November.

Trump’s DNI pick will be critical as the president-elect has already dismissed the intelligence community multiple times for their assessment that Russia hacked key Democrats during the 2016 presidential election.

Trump earlier announced Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kansas) as his pick to lead the Central Intelligence Agency.
