Pennsylvania waterways getting stocked for upcoming start of trout season
With trout season only two weeks away, Pennsylvania is bustling with stocking efforts, releasing over 3 million fish into hundreds of streams and lakes across the state.
In Mifflinburg, Union County, state agencies spent Saturday highlighting the exciting fishing opportunities statewide.
This year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has teamed up with the American Sportfishing Association and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to make fishing more accessible. Visitors to state parks can borrow fishing gear, including rods, reels, and tackle boxes.
“We're so excited about our partnership with DNR and the state parks in Pennsylvania. Great places to go. Take your family fishing and boating for trout season and throughout the entire year. Remember, fishing is good all year long, and all year long, there's something to fish for in Pennsylvania,” said Laurel Anders, deputy executive director for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
Before heading out, anglers are reminded to secure a valid fishing license, as required by state law. For more details on which trout species are stocked in your favorite waterways, click here.
The opening day of trout season will be held on Saturday, April 5. A single, statewide 'Mentored Youth Trout Day' will take place on Saturday, March 29.
